From 2006 to 2018, the company produced 2.2-liter Ford 2.2 TDCi diesel engines, which were fitted to several well-known models sold under the Ford, Land Rover, and Jaguar brands. These power units are actually replicas of the Peugeot DW12MTED4 and DW12CTED4 engines.

Ford 2.2 TDCi engine design
One of the Peugeot DW12MTED4 engine variants, a 2.2-liter diesel engine with 156 horsepower, made its debut on the Land Rover Freelander II SUV in 2006. Its 175-horsepower upgrade debuted on the Ford Mondeo, Galaxy, and S-Max models in 2008. A cast-iron block, an aluminum 16-valve cylinder head with hydraulic compensators, a modern Bosch EDC16CP39 Common Rail fuel system with piezo injectors, a combined timing drive from a belt and a small chain between the camshafts, and a potent Garrett GTB1752VK turbocharger with variable geometry and intercooler are all part of the design.
Similar to the Peugeot DW12CTED4 engine, this diesel engine was upgraded in 2010. Its power was increased to 200 horsepower by a more efficient Mitsubishi TD04V turbine.
Specifications
The first generation of these diesel engines had a Garrett GTB1752VK turbine and produced 175 horsepower:
| Displacement, cc | 2179 |
| Fuel system | Common Rail |
| Power output, hp | 175 |
| Torque output, Nm | 400 |
| Cylinder block | cast iron R4 |
| Block head | aluminum 16v |
| Cylinder bore, mm | 85 |
| Piston stroke, mm | 96 |
| Compression ratio | 16.6 |
| Fuel type | diesel |
| Euro standards | EURO 4 |
The engine came in two different versions with identical technical specifications:
| Q4BA (175 hp / 400 Nm) | Ford Mondeo Mk4 |
| Q4WA (175 hp / 400 Nm) | Ford Galaxy Mk2, S-Max Mk1 |
A more potent MHI TD04V turbine allowed diesels of the second generation to reach 200 horsepower:
| Displacement, cc | 2179 |
| Fuel system | Common Rail |
| Power output, hp | 200 |
| Torque output, Nm | 420 |
| Cylinder block | cast iron R4 |
| Block head | aluminum 16v |
| Cylinder bore, mm | 85 |
| Piston stroke, mm | 96 |
| Compression ratio | 15.8 |
| Fuel type | diesel |
| Euro standards | EURO 5 |
The engine came in two different versions with identical technical specifications:
| KNBA (200 hp / 420 Nm) | Ford Mondeo Mk4 |
| KNWA (200 hp / 420 Nm) | Ford Galaxy Mk2, S-Max Mk1 |
Disadvantages of the Ford 2.2 TDCi engine
This unit’s primary issues are common to most contemporary diesel engines: the turbocharger geometry and particulate filter are not very high resource, the EGR valve clogs rather quickly, and the piezo injectors cannot handle poor fuel.
Because this diesel engine dislikes liquid oils, it is best to use 5W-40 and 5W-50; otherwise, it may turn the liners during intense acceleration from low revs.
