In 1989, Honda introduced the renowned B16 series engine. It was a B16A engine with two camshafts and Honda’s exclusive VTEC valve timing system. The Japanese Honda Integra model had the engine installed. This engine is the first to use Honda’s exclusive VTEC system. From this point on, Honda’s upgraded engines were identified by the DOHC VTEC marking on the engine cover.

Internal combustion engines (B16B, B18B, B18C, and B20B) are also part of the B-series.
The engine was mounted on:
- Honda CR-X 2 (EF) in 1989 – 1991;
- Honda CR-X 3 (EG) in 1992 – 1998;
- Honda Civic 4 (EF) in 1989 – 1991;
- Honda Civic 5 (EG) in 1991 – 1995;
- Honda Civic 6 (EJ) in 1995 – 2000;
- Honda Integra 2 (DA5) in 1989 – 1993.

Disadvantages of the Honda B16A engine
This power unit is incredibly dependable and has almost no weak points;
The only component that frequently ruptures the cylinder head gasket after more than 150,000 kilometers of operation;
The valve typically bends when the timing belt breaks, which is intended to last 100,000 kilometers;
The valves are adjusted every 40,000 kilometers, and there are no hydraulic lifters.
