Since 2012, the Japanese company’s factories have been producing the 2.0-liter Mazda PE-VPS or SkyActiv-G 2.0 engine, which is found in the majority of its most popular models with indexes 3, 6, CX-3, CX-30, and CX-5. A 184-hp version of this unit made its debut on the 2018 MX-5 roadster.

The 2.0-liter Ford engine (index MZR LF) was supposed to be replaced by this engine. The SkyActiv 2.0 engine shares many of the same cutting-edge technologies as the SkyActiv 1.5 engine. Due to the ideal length and configuration of 4-2-1, an outlet manifold with dual S-VT variable valve timing on two camshafts produces the effect of dynamic purging of outlet gases in the combustion chambers.
P5-VPS and PY-VPS engines are also part of the Skyactiv-G family.

- Mazda 6 GJ in 2012 – 2016;
- Mazda 6 GL since 2016;
- Mazda CX-3 DK since 2016;

- Mazda CX-5 KF since 2017.

Disadvantages of the PE-VPS engine
There was a cold start issue in the initial years, but everything was resolved by the new firmware;
This device quickly clogs the fuel system because it dislikes bad gasoline.
Additionally, ignition coils frequently fail due to low-quality fuel;
The ribbed belt frequently burst because of the wear on the plastic tension roller;
Here, as well as in the initial kilometers of the run, oil consumption is also frequently observed.
