Engine Mercedes OM622

Common rail direct injection technology powers the 1598 cc, three-inline, four-cylinder OM622 diesel engine. The piston stroke is 79.5 mm, and the cylinder diameter is 80 mm. 15.4:1 is the compression ratio. Cast iron makes up the engine crankcase, while aluminum alloy makes up the cylinder head.

Designed specifically for use in minibuses, the Mercedes-Benz OM 622 is a modified version of the OM 626 engine with lower performance characteristics. The power unit is positioned transversely with a drive on the front wheels as a result of the layout change, which did not affect the working volume. The engine’s power has dropped and now ranges from 88 to 114 horsepower.

The engine has an aluminum alloy cylinder head and a cast iron crankcase. Since most contemporary diesel engines use aluminum pistons, these engines have steel pistons. Type DOHC for timing. Put differently, each cylinder has two overhead camshafts and four valves.

A VTG variable length rotary engine powers the outlet system. The turbine has a diameter of 37.5 mm. A vacuum chamber regulates the turbocharger blades’ motion. The electrical converter CU sends signals to the latter. Additionally, the outlet has an EGR valve. The outlet gases are fed to the compressor after first passing through the filter and cooling. They are then processed by the selective neutralizer. The goal of all of this is to as closely as possible adhere to European environmental standards.
