The 1.6-liter Opel Z16XEP or LJ7 engine was manufactured in Hungary between 2002 and 2009, and it was fitted to the majority of the company’s models at the time, including the Astra, Vectra, and Zafira. Z16XE1 was the unique index for a modified version of this power unit.

The Z16SE, Z16XE, Z16XER, Z18XE, and Z18XER engines are also part of the Z15 family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Opel Astra G (T98) in 2002 – 2009; Astra H (A04) in 2004 – 2007;
- Opel Meriva A (X03) in 2005 – 2009;
- Opel Vectra C (Z02) in 2005 – 2008;
- Opel Zafira B (A05) in 2005 – 2007.

Disadvantages of the Z16XEP engine
Due to Twinport system malfunctions, drivers frequently complain about engine traction failures;
A slightly less common cause of the power unit’s erratic operation is a clogged EGR valve;
The timing belt shifts at 150,000 kilometers, but it is preferable to do so more frequently because the valves bend when it breaks;
The ECU unit, thermostat, and ignition module are also low resources; hydraulic lifters are absent, and valve clearances must be adjusted every 100,000 kilometers.
