Engine Peugeot DV6ATED4

From 2004 to 2011, the 1.6-liter Peugeot DV6ATED4, DV6A, or 1.6 HDi 90 engine was assembled and fitted to the majority of the French company’s most well-known models. There were two versions of this power unit: 9HV with a particulate filter and 9HX without.

DV6TED4, DV6ATED4, DV6BTED4, DV6CTED, DV6DTED, DV6ETED, DV6FCTED, DV6FDTED, and DV6FETED are additional diesels in the DV6 family.

A streamlined DV6A with 90 horsepower debuted in 2004 alongside the 109 horsepower DV6 diesel engine. Both engines have similar designs: an aluminum 16-valve cylinder head with hydraulic lifters, an aluminum 4-cylinder block with cast-iron liners, and a combined timing drive with a chain connecting the intake and exhaust shafts and a belt connecting the crankshaft to the exhaust camshaft.

Fuel injection is handled by the Bosch Common Rail system with electromagnetic injectors, and every modification has a standard Mitsubishi TD025 turbine with fixed geometry. The engine comes in two versions: 9HV for Euro 4 with a particulate filter and 9HX for Euro 3 without one.

The engine was mounted on:

  • Citroen C3 I (A31) in 2005 – 2009; C3 II (A51) in 2009 – 2011;
  • Citroen C3 Picasso I (A58) in 2009 – 2011;
  • Citroen C4 I (B51) in 2004 – 2010;
  • Citroen Berlingo I (M49/M59) in 2005 – 2008; Berlingo II (B9) in 2008 – 2010;
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso I (N68) in 2006 – 2010;
  • Peugeot 207 I (A7) in 2006 – 2009;

Disadvantages of the DV6ATED4 engine

Rapid camshaft wear and the failure of the timing chain tensioner, which connects the camshafts, dominated the early years of diesel production. After that, the manufacturer raised the caliber of its production facilities, and things quickly got back to normal.

Particulate filter units have an air dispenser with two dampers that frequently flows, and lubricant flows onto the auxiliary units and timing belt. Oil can be forced into the intake manifold by the air dispenser model without a particulate filter.

The turbine’s low resource is one of the most frequent complaints. However, a clogged coarse oil filter, which is found in the oil pipe fitting that provides lubricant to the turbocharger, is typically the cause rather than its dependability.

The remaining issues are common to many diesel engines: the refractory washers beneath the nozzles continuously burn out, the particulate filter runs a little, and the EGR quickly becomes dirty and wedges. Additionally, rockers can break here and the camshaft cams may sustain damage if the timing belt is broken.
