Engine Peugeot EW12J4

Popular mid-size concern models like the 406, 407, 607, and 807 were equipped with the 2.2-liter Peugeot EW12J4 or 3FZ engine, which was manufactured in France between 1999 and 2009. This engine was modified to have a higher compression ratio (EW12E4 or 3FY).

Disadvantages of the EW12J4 engine

The utilization of two balancer shafts makes this engine structurally complex;
Owners most frequently complain about oil leaks from oil seals and valve covers; ignition system issues and sensor glitches come in second; the phase regulator may knock at 50,000 km, hydraulic lifters at 100,000 km; and the power unit makes a lot of noise, especially when it’s idle.
