Engine Peugeot TU1JP

From 2001 to 2013, a French plant produced the 1.1-liter Peugeot TU1JP engine, which was found in the great majority of the group’s mass-market small cars. A carburetor and mono-injection engine with the TU1K and TU1M indices were part of the TU1 family.

The engine was mounted on:

  • Peugeot 106 I (S1/S2) in 2001- 2003;
  • Peugeot 206 I (T1) in 2001- 2005;
  • Citroen C2 in 2003 – 2009;
  • Citroen C3 I in 2002 – 2009; C3 II in 2009 – 2013;
  • Citroen Saxo in 2001 – 2004.

Disadvantages of the TU1JP engine

The ignition system and sensor malfunctions are the primary causes of the issues;
Because the throttle and idle speed controller are contaminated, engine speed frequently floats;
Oil consumption starts when valve stem seals are tanned due to overheating;
Strong knocks from under the hood indicate an early adjustment of valve clearances; the timing belt serves no more than 90,000 km; when it breaks, the valves nearly always bend.
