From 2002 to 2007, the company produced the 4.5-liter Porsche M48.00 gasoline engine, which was mounted on the Cayenne crossover in the rear of the 955 or the pre-styling version of the first generation. Due to inadequate Lokasil coating, this engine is notorious for frequent cylinder scuffing.

The M48-line’s engines are M48.00, M48.50, M48.01, M48.51, and M48.70.

Disadvantages of the Porsche M48.00 engine
The creation of scoring in the cylinders is the unit’s most well-known issue.
Driving on a cold engine and using poor fuel or oil are two causes of scuffing.
Antifreeze leaks are frequently caused by cooling system tubes bursting.
One characteristic of ignition coils is their low resource; if one breaks down, the others are destroyed.
This engine’s water pump, thermostat, and starter are also weak points.
