Only the third generation of the Legacy model and the Outback-based wagon were equipped with the 3.0-liter Subaru EZ30D gasoline engine, which the company produced between 2000 and 2004. An improved model with the EZ30R index swiftly replaced this one.

Only the fourth generation Legacy, Outback, and Tribeca crossover models were equipped with the EZ30R, which was manufactured between 2003 and 2009. This device is known as EZ30D v2 on the manufacturer’s website and has an unofficial index of R.
The EZ36 engine is another part of the EZ series.
The engine was mounted on:
- Subaru Legacy 3 (BE) in 2000 – 2003 (EZ30D);
- Subaru Legacy 4 (BL) in 2003 – 2009 (EZ30R);
- Subaru Outback 2 (BH) in 2000 – 2004 (EZ30D);
- Subaru Outback 3 (BP) in 2003 – 2009 (EZ30R);
- Subaru Tribeca 1 (WX) in 2006 – 2007 (EZ30R).

Disadvantages of the EZ30 engine
First of all, this engine uses a lot of fuel and is prone to oil leaks; the cooling system is not well-known for its dependability; he is also terrified of overheating;
Here, using non-original oil quickly renders the chain tensioner inoperable; on runs longer than 150,000 kilometers, a progressive oil burn frequently starts.
