Since 2015, the 1.3-liter Toyota 1NR-VE engine has been manufactured in Japan and is limited to small models available in Southeast Asian automotive markets. Every version of the engine has a Dual VVT-i variable valve timing system.

The engines in the NR family are 3NR-FE, 8NR-FTS, 1NR-FE, 1NR-VE, 1NR-FKE, 2NR-FE, 2NR-VE, and 2NR-FKE.
The engine was mounted on:
- Toyota Avanza F650 since 2015;
- Perodua Bezza since 2016;
- Perodua Myvi since 2017.
