Since 2004, factories in Indonesia and Japan have been assembling the 2.0-liter Toyota 1TR-FE engine for pickups and minibuses. Initially, the motor only had a phase regulator at the inlet, but Dual VVT-i has been installed since 2015. This unit comes in a gas version with the index 1TR-FPE.

The 2TR-FE engine is another member of the TR family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Toyota HiAce H200 since 2004;
- Toyota Hilux AN30 2004 in 2004 – 2015; Hilux AN130 since 2015;
- Toyota Innova AN40 in 2004 – 2015; Innova AN140 since 2015.
