From 1998 to 2009, the company assembled and installed the 2.4-liter 5-cylinder Volvo B5244S2 engine in its most well-known models, including the S60, S70, S80, and V70. This device was basically a scaled-down version of the popular B5244S index motor.

The engine was mounted on:
- Volvo S60 I (384) in 2000 – 2009;
- Volvo S70 I (874) in 1999 – 2000;
- Volvo S80 I (184) in 1998 – 2006;

Disadvantages of the B5244S2 engine
An oil separator membrane rupture is the engine’s most frequent failure.
Additionally, the buggy electric choke Magneti Marelli is the subject of numerous complaints on specialized forums;
Keep a close eye on the timing belt’s condition because if it breaks, the valves will bend; a broken ribbed belt frequently tightens into the timing, which kills the motor;
A phase regulator clutch, a gasoline pump, and a water pump are additional weaknesses.
