From 2004 to 2010, the Swedish company’s popular C30, C70, S40, and V50 models were equipped with the 2.4-liter Volvo B5244S4 gasoline engine, which was manufactured in Skæde. A slightly less potent version of this power unit, designated B5244S5, existed.

The B5234T, B5244S, B5244S2, B5244S4, B5244T, and B5244T3 are members of the 5-cylinder 2.3-2.4-liter modular engine family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Volvo C30 I (533) in 2006 – 2010;
- Volvo C70 II (542) in 2005 – 2009;
- Volvo S40 II (544) in 2004 – 2009;
- Volvo V50 I (545) in 2004 – 2009.

Disadvantages of the B5244S4 engine
Since the valves bend when the timing belt breaks, it is crucial to keep an eye on its condition.
Phase regulator oil leakage is another well-known engine issue.
Lubricant consumption frequently occurs when the crankcase ventilation system becomes clogged.
This engine’s supports, thermostat, pump, and fuel pump are also weak points.
