From 2004 to 2008, the Sjovde plant assembled the 2.5-liter turbo Volvo B5254T3 engine, which was installed in the Swedish company’s smallest models, including the C30, S40, and V50. Such a power unit was referred to by the indices HUBA, HUWA, and HYDA on Ford vehicles.

The B5252S, B5254S, B5254T, B5254T2, B5254T3, B5254T4, and B5254T6 are the five-cylinder 2.5-liter modular engine family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Volvo C30 I (533) in 2006 – 2008;
- Volvo C70 II (542) in 2005 – 2007;
- Volvo S40 II (544) in 2004 – 2007;
- Volvo V50 I (545) in 2004 – 2007.

Disadvantages of the B5254T3 engine
Owners typically complain about phase control system malfunctions on specialized forums;
These engines also use oil because of clogged crankcase ventilation;
Leaking front camshaft oil seals are another common engine issue; the timing belt may not last the recommended 120,000 kilometers, and when it breaks, the valves bend; and the pump, fuel pump, and engine support frequently need to be replaced after 100,000 kilometers of operation.
