Hyundai D4AL engines are renowned for their affordability, superior quality, and dependability. They vary in how environmentally friendly their exhaust is and how economically they use fuel and lubricants. In their working chamber, the fuel is nearly entirely burned, and the electronic starter allows for an instant start.

With a displacement of 3298 cm3, the turbocharged D4AL engine with intercooler has an in-line design. The unit generates 115 horsepower at 3000 rpm because each cylinder has four valves, for a total of sixteen valves. Compact trucks and buses were equipped with D4AL engines, and since they were primarily utilized for medium-tonnage cargo transportation within a community or area, they were driven virtually daily. The majority of the owners mentioned this engine’s excellent dependability and maintainability.

The D4AL engine is an example of an overhead valve (OHV, OverHead Valve, or “valves in the head of the block”). It was possible to optimize the combustion chamber’s size, experiment with its shape, and minimize air losses because the valves were located in the cylinder head. Consequently, there is a minimum 25% increase in capacity with the same volume. The main moving parts of the cylinder block are shown disassembled in the figure, along with some drawbacks that should be considered when performing engine maintenance.
