The Mercedes OM 924 LA weighs roughly 100 kg less than a 6-cylinder engine with the same specifications. In terms of payload, this offers a substantial advantage. The Mercedes OM924LA engine was later modified in a number of ways by the developers. These were more powerful and efficient six-cylinder engines.
