Engine Mercedes M272 E30

The Mercedes M272 E30 engine, which sits between the M272 E35 and M272 E25, is primarily intended to replace the out-of-date M112 E28. Similar to the E35, the M272 E30 aluminum V-shaped (camber 90°) engine block has a short stroke crankshaft and smaller cylinders.

M112 E24, M112 E26, M112 E28, M112 E32, M112 E37, M272 E25, M272 E30, M272 E35, M276 DE30, and M276 DE35 are all members of the V6-family.

Similar to the E35, the cylinder heads are made of aluminum, have two camshafts (DOHC), and have four valves per cylinder. The intake valve diameter is 37 mm, while the exhaust valve diameter is 28 mm. Additionally, hydraulic lifters, a two-stage intake manifold with variable length, and a continuously variable valve timing system on the intake and exhaust shafts are all used.

The timing drive has a service life of roughly 150,000 kilometers and uses a double roller chain. ME control system 9.7 from Bosch.

Disadvantages of the M272 KE30 engine

This power unit’s timing drive is its weakest component.
The entire timing drive is rendered useless due to the balancer shaft sprockets’ quick wear.
A stuck exhaust manifold flap is another known issue.
For fifty to seventy thousand kilometers, plastic cylinder head plugs leak oil.
When the engine overheats, the aluminum coating in the cylinders is destroyed by detonation.
