Engine Mercedes M272 E35

The next stage of Mercedes’ V6 development was the M272 E35 engine, which was meant to take the place of the M112 E32 and M112 E37. The M272 E25 and M272 E30, which have working volumes of 2.5 and 3 liters, respectively, are part of the new family in addition to the 3.5-liter.

M112 E24, M112 E26, M112 E28, M112 E32, M112 E37, M272 E25, M272 E30, M272 E35, M276 DE30, and M276 DE35 are all members of the V6-family.

The M112 E32 served as the model for the new 272nd series of engines, which have an aluminum cylinder block with the same camber of 90 ° and inter-cylinder distance of 106 mm. Lightweight pistons, lightweight forged connecting rods, a balance shaft in the collapse, a new crankshaft with an 86 mm piston stroke, and silumin liners for a 92.6 mm piston diameter.

The aluminum cylinder heads have two camshafts (DOHC), four valves per cylinder, and a diameter of 39.5 mm for the intake valves and 30 mm for the exhaust. The intake valve stems have been shortened from 7 mm to 6 mm. The M272 engine makes use of hydraulic lifters, a two-stage intake manifold with variable length, and a continuously variable valve timing system on both shafts. A double roller chain with a resource of roughly 150,000 kilometers powers the timing drive. ME control system 9.7 from Bosch.

Disadvantages of the M272 E35 engine

This power unit’s timing drive is its weakest component.
The entire timing drive is rendered useless due to the balancer shaft sprockets’ quick wear.
A stuck exhaust manifold flap is another known issue.
For fifty to seventy thousand kilometers, plastic cylinder head plugs leak oil.
When the engine overheats, the aluminum coating in the cylinders is destroyed by detonation.
