From 2011 to 2016, the company produced the 1.6-liter BMW N13 turbocharged gasoline engine, which was only fitted to two of the company’s models: the 1-Series in the rear of the F20 and the 3-Series in the rear of the F30. This motor, which goes by the EP6CDT index, was created in collaboration with the PSA.

This engine’s crankshaft has forged, dry-type cast iron liners, and its cylinder block is composed of aluminum alloy. The crankshaft has eight counterweights, the connecting rods are 138.5 mm long, and the Mahle pistons have a diameter of 77 mm. The engine has split camshafts, double Vanos, and a new kind of cylinder head with a Valvetronic 3 system. The engine also features direct fuel injection.
The engine was installed on:
- BMW 1-Series F20 in 2011 – 2016;
- BMW 3-Series F30 in 2012 – 2015.

Disadvantages of the N13B16 engine
Engine vibration, floating speed, and increased fuel consumption are some of the issues that can occur when using the N13B16 engine. The unit’s service life will be extended by prompt diagnostics and replacement of worn-out components.

The injectors are checked first because motor vibrations are caused by dirty injectors.
It’s important to check the throttle valve and see if the idle valve is sufficiently clean when the rpm is floating.
The air flow meter is evaluated when fuel consumption rises; a malfunctioning air flow meter frequently results in higher gas consumption.
The manufacturer’s recommended high-quality gasoline (98th) and oil are recommended for the N13B16 engine. The unit dislikes having its working fluids changed so frequently. The engine will operate dependably and last a long time with routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
