Since 2001, the company’s factories have been producing the 1.3-liter Honda L13A gasoline engine, which is found in many of its compact models, including the Fit, Brio, City, and Civic. The powertrain comes in two versions: 16-valve i-VTEC and 8-valve i-DSI.

The old idea that an engine should be economical and ecologically friendly is re-characterized by Honda’s L-motors. These Honda engines first appeared in Fit vehicles, which were a huge success for Honda and marked a turning point in the Japanese auto industry. Fit was so popular that few other models could compete with it, and the new engine series was a major factor in this.
Internal combustion engines (L13B, L15A, and L15B) are also part of the L-series.
The engine was mounted on:
- Honda Civic 8 (FD) in 2005 – 2008;
- Honda City 4 (GD) in 2002 – 2008;
- Honda Fit 1 (GD) in 2001 – 2007;
- Honda Fit 2 (GE) in 2007 – 2014;
- Honda Jazz 1 (GD) in 2002 – 2008;
- Honda Jazz 2 (GG) in 2008 – 2015.

Disadvantages of the Honda L13A engine
This line of engines is regarded as dependable and has almost no vulnerabilities;
Maintaining the power unit is challenging due to the extremely dense engine compartment layout;
The service station neglects to replace all eight of the candles that come with the i-DSI modification;
In addition to the lack of hydraulic lifters and the need to change the valve clearances every 50,000 kilometers, prolonged candle operation causes ignition coils to fail.
