From 1993 to 2006, popular models like the Clarus, Sportage, and the American version of the Spectra were equipped with the 2.0-liter 16-valve Kia FED or FE-DOHC engine. This power unit is fundamentally a variant of the popular Mazda FE-DE engine.

A3E, A5D, BFD, S5D, A6D, S6D, T8D, FED, and FEE are Kia-designed engines.

Disadvantages of the Kia FED engine
Although the aluminum cylinder head of this dependable device is prone to overheating and cracking, it is not advised to use less oil because the hydraulic lifters will knock quickly.
Although the timing belt rarely travels more than 50,000 kilometers, the valves do not bend when it breaks.
An oil burn typically starts around 200,000 kilometers due to ring or cap wear; this motor’s weak points are the engine mounts, cylinder head gasket, and ignition system.
