Only the most recent iteration of the Mazda 3 model, as well as the CX-3 and CX-30 crossovers, are equipped with the 1.8-liter Mazda S8-DPTS or Skyactiv-D 1.8 diesel engine, which was first introduced in 2018. A diesel version with the i-ELOOP recovery system is available under the S8-DPTR index.

The S5-DPTS and S5-VPTS internal combustion engines are also part of the Skyactiv-D family.

Disadvantages of the S8-DPTS engine
Fuel quality must be met by the Common Rail Denso system with piezo injectors; this motor has an advanced exhaust aftertreatment system and complies with Euro6-D Temp.
