Engine Nissan SR20DE

From 1989 to 2002, the company’s factories produced the 2.0-liter Nissan SR20DE engine, also known as SR20, which was fitted to a number of well-known concern models, including the Almera, Primera, and Silvia. The single-injection version of the same power unit was assembled under a different index, SR20Di.

A 2.0-liter was added to the Nissan SR family of gasoline engines in October 1989. With distributed fuel injection, an aluminum cylinder block, a 16-valve head with hydraulic lifters, and a timing chain, it was a highly advanced engine for the time. The power of this unit, which had numerous modifications, ranged from 130 to 165 horsepower.

Bright valve covers were a distinguishing feature of the initial versions of the unit, which were designed for sports cars and charged models. They are referred to as Red or Blue Top in the catalogs. The production of standard units, which were severely constrained by ecology, started around 1994. They had smaller camshaft lifts and silver and black valve covers. A new version of the motor with a lightweight connecting rod, piston group, and roller rockers was introduced in 2000.

Disadvantages of the SR20DE engine

This power unit has no obvious flaws and is reasonably dependable. They frequently complain on the forums only about floating speed because the idle speed controller is contaminated. A burned-out lambda probe or issues with the mass air flow sensor can occasionally be the source of unstable operation.

This series’ engines have a long-lasting distributor ignition system. However, the shaft seal will need to be replaced if oil seeps out from beneath it. Additionally, it is preferable to purchase the original since owners frequently replace high-voltage wires.

An EGR valve with a vacuum or electric drive is present in almost all motor models. The engine loses traction and becomes unstable when it becomes dirty and sticks. Fuel consumption frequently rises as a result of many owners turning it off.

Regular lubricant leaks from beneath the valve covers, a low knock sensor resource, and an inefficient crankcase ventilation system are just a few of the flaws. Long runs frequently result in oil consumption because of ring and cap wear.
