The most well-liked concern models of the era, including the Astra, Vectra, and Zafira, were equipped with the 1.8-liter Opel X18XE1 engine, which was manufactured at a Hungarian facility between 1998 and 2000. This power unit was a modification of the X16XEL motor and had nothing to do with the X18XE.

X12XE, X14XE, X16XEL, X16SZR, X18XE, and X18XE1 are all part of the X10 line.
The engine was mounted on:
- Opel Astra G (T98) in 1998 – 2000;
- Opel Vectra B (J96) in 1999 – 2000;
- Opel Zafira A (T98) in 1999 – 2000.

Disadvantages of the X18XE1 engine
ECU malfunctions are a common cause of engine issues, and purchasing a replacement is simpler than fixing them.
Second are floating engine speeds, which are typically caused by throttle contamination; occasionally, a clogged EGR valve is linked to this unit’s unstable operation;
The valves will bend if the timing belt breaks, so replace it every 60,000 kilometers.
