After the 1HD series’ diesel production began in 1990, the engine was used in the Land Cruiser 80 SUV and the Toyota Coaster bus. In addition to being incredibly dependable and not whimsical, the 1HD engine’s power indicators are really impressive. You can fix and maintain the motor on your own thanks to its straightforward design.

Toyota 1HD Mods
- The basic 1HD-T engine produced 165 horsepower and had an 8-valve cylinder head and a CT22 turbine. The boost pressure was 0.48 bar.
- A 16-valve cylinder head and a different camshaft were added to the 1HD-FT, a modification whose production started in the mid-1990s. Environmental regulations required the engine to be clamped even though the turbine pressure rose to 0.62 bar. There was 170 HP of power.
- The most recent version, 1HD-FTE, has an electronic injection pump, better cylinder head cooling, a 224/246 phase camshaft, and a CT20B turbine. 202 horsepower and more than 400 Nm of torque were added.

Frequent problems
Every 40,000 kilometers, valve thermal clearances must be adjusted;
Seldom does the timing belt endure over 100,000 kilometers;
Coke quickly clogs the intake manifold and EGR valve; camshaft, rocker, and axle wear is an issue; the fuel pressure regulator occasionally malfunctions; the new electronic injection pump is far more erratic than the mechanical one;
In any case, 1HD turbocharged diesels are easy to maintain, dependable, and have few issues when using high-quality fuel and oil. A 1HD resource can easily travel more than 700,000 kilometers.
