From 2003 to 2009, only Transporter, Caravelle, or Multivan minibuses with T5 bodies were equipped with the 2.5-liter Volkswagen Axe 2.5 TDI diesel engine. This unit has been modified for EURO 4 with a BPC index and particulate filter.

AAB, AJT, ACV, AXG, BAC, BPE, AXD, AXE, AJS, and AYH are also included in the EA153 series.

The engine was installed on:

Disadvantages of the VW AXE engine
Leaks from the tandem pump and nozzle seals are the primary issues;
Another sleeveless aluminum block is prone to scuffing and is terrified of bad diesel fuel;
This is where the oil system heat exchanger frequently leaks, allowing lubricant to get into the antifreeze;
Rockers or camshaft cams may already be worn out after 200,000 kilometers of operation;
Although there are still many flaws in this unit, they are common to contemporary diesel engines.
