Engine Opel A12XER

The fourth generation Corsa and the comparable Chevrolet Aveo were equipped with the 1.2-liter 16-valve Opel A12XER or LDC engine, which was manufactured between 2009 and 2014 and mounted in the rear of the T300. A12XEL, also known as LWD, was a derated version of this motor that could produce up to 69 horsepower.

The engine was mounted on:

  • Opel Corsa D (S07) in 2009 – 2014;
  • Chevrolet Aveo T300 in 2011 – 2014.

Disadvantages of the A12XER engine

The timing chain’s low resource—sometimes less than 100,000 km—is the engine’s primary issue;
Twinport dampers are very costly to repair if they break, despite their long lifespan;
Here, the ignition coils are integrated into a single, unreliable unit;
A malfunctioning antifreeze temperature sensor could cause a car to start poorly in the winter;
Both the front crankshaft oil seal and the valve cover are continuously leaking oil.
