From 2001 to 2007, a number of well-known concern models, including the Almera Tino, Primera, and X-Trail, were equipped with the 2.2-liter Nissan YD22DDTi diesel engine, also known as YD22. There was a YD22ETi modification with a VP44 electronic high pressure fuel pump in addition to the Common Rail version.

Internal combustion engines YD22DD/YD22DDT and YD25DDTi are also part of the YD series.
The engine was mounted on:
- Nissan Almera 2 (N16) in 2003 – 2006;
- Nissan Almera Tino 1 (V10) in 2003 – 2006;
- Nissan Primera 3 (P12) in 2001 – 2007;
- Nissan X-Trail 1 (T30) in 2003 – 2007.

Disadvantages of the YD22DDTi engine
Although the Denso fuel system is reliable, repairs are expensive;
Owners frequently report oil leaks from the intercooler on the profile forum;
Fragile glow plugs are extremely difficult to access and break off when replaced;
The EGR valve needs to be cleaned on a regular basis because soot quickly grows there.
There is a significant chance of the engine’s double-row timing chain being stretched after 200,000 kilometers.
