Since 2006, factories in China and the US have been producing the 1.8-liter Toyota 2ZR-FE engine for Lotus sports cars and front-wheel drive models like the Corolla and Auris. Every version of this engine has a Dual VVT-i variable valve timing system.
The engines in the ZR family are 1ZR-FE, 1ZR-FAE, 2ZR-FE, 2ZR-FAE, 2ZR-FXE, 3ZR-FE, and 3ZR-FAE.
The engine was mounted on:

- Toyota Auris 1 (E150) in 2006 – 2012;
- Toyota Corolla 10 (E150) in 2006 – 2013; Corolla E160 since 2012; Corolla E170 since 2013;

Owners of cars with these engines typically complain about a progressive oil burner;
Many people are still concerned about unrelated knocks and noises while the power unit is operating;
Carbon deposits in the intake and on the throttle are the cause of the floating engine speed; oil leaks frequently occur, most frequently from the filter and under the timing chain cover; the pump resource rarely surpasses 50,000 km, and the timing chain stretches after 150,000 km.
