Engine Toyota 3UR-FE

In 2007, the company’s largest SUVs and pickups were equipped with the 5.7-liter Toyota 3UR-FE engine. An ethanol version of this engine with the 3UR-FBE index is available in several markets.

Disadvantages of the 3UR-FE engine

This engine frequently experiences oil scraper ring coking, which is followed by steadily increasing oil consumption; if the oil level is missed, the crankshaft liners are actually rotating;
The crankcase ventilation sensor frequently malfunctions; the ETCS-i electronic throttle system frequently malfunctions; a jammed hydraulic tensioner has been known to weaken the timing chain; the water pump’s resource is limited and can leak up to 100,000 kilometers of run.
