The European version of the PT Cruiser was equipped with a 2.2-liter Chrysler EDJ or 2.2 CRD diesel engine, which was manufactured from 2002 to 2009. It produced 121 horsepower until 2005 and then 150 horsepower after that. This Daimler AG diesel engine is a variant of the OM 646 and has its own OM 644 index.

The ENE, ENF, and EXL internal combustion engines are also part of the Mercedes lineup.

Disadvantages of the EDJ engine
Engine maintenance is very challenging because of the dense engine compartment;
The primary issues with this diesel engine are related to fuel equipment malfunctions;
Additionally, the flaps used to alter the intake manifold’s geometry are becoming clogged and dirty;
The system may occasionally become airy as a result of quick-connect fittings drying out;
Additionally, the crankshaft position and fuel rail pressure sensors frequently malfunction.
