Only the European version of the original Neon model was equipped with the Chrysler EBD 1.8-liter gasoline engine, which was manufactured in Trenton between 1994 and 1999.

Internal combustion engines such as ECB, ECC, ECH, EDT, EDZ, and EDV are also part of the Neon series.
The EBD is an under-bored 1.8 L (1796 cc/109.6 cid) version of the 2.0 L engine. This engine has a 10.0:1 compression ratio and a square 83 mm (3.27 in) bore and stroke. This engine was manufactured at the Trenton Engine Plant for use in Chrysler Neons sold outside of the United States. It satisfies Euro III emission standards and generates 86 kW (115 hp) at 5750 rpm and 151 N⋅m (111 lb⋅ft) at 4950 rpm.
The engine was installed on:
- Chrysler Neon 1 (SX) in 1994 – 1999.

Disadvantages of the EBD engine
To begin with, this motor is extremely uncommon and was only found on the European Neon;
The thermostat and hoses of the cooling system are cracked, which is a low resource.
As a result, gasket failure and cylinder head warping frequently result from overheating in this area;
Grease leaks from oil seals or an oil burner are common during extended runs;
The valve typically bends when the timing belt breaks, so keep an eye on its condition.
