Honda started manufacturing the upgraded K24W in 2013. It was a brand-new 2.4L direct injection i-VTEC gasoline engine created as a component of Honda’s upcoming Earth Dreams engine lineup.

The only similarities between the K24W and earlier K24 engines are the bore and stroke. A new die-cast aluminum cylinder block has been added to the engine. A brand-new forged steel crankshaft and lightweight pistons with cupped heads are located inside the cylinder block. The 2.4L Earth Dreams engine also features an integrated exhaust manifold, DOHC, i-VTEC, a high pressure injector with intake valve ports, and a new lightweight die-cast aluminum cylinder head with four valves per cylinder. To enhance the air-fuel mixture and combustion process, the intake ports and combustion chambers have been optimized. The angle of the intake and exhaust valves is 35 degrees smaller. The reorientation of the intake and exhaust is the most obvious external change. The exhaust is now facing forward, and the air intake is facing back.
An enhanced journal surface on the intake and exhaust camshafts lowers friction. A silent chain with a double-lever tensioner that reduces friction powers them. A high-pressure fuel pump with direct injection is located at the end of the exhaust camshaft. For six-stage injectors, this high pressure pump can supply fuel at up to 20 MPa. The engine has two high performance catalytic converters installed to meet the most recent emissions regulations (California ULEV-2 and Federal Tier 2 Bin 5 certifications). The second converter is positioned slightly downstream of the engine, whereas the first converter is mounted directly on the cylinder head outlet.
