Engine Hyundai-Kia D4FE

Since 2017, popular concern models like the i30, i40, Ceed, Sportage, and Tucson have been equipped with the 1.6-liter Hyundai D4FE or Smartstream D 1.6 CRDi engine. There are two power versions of this diesel engine: 116 horsepower and 280 Nm and 136 horsepower and 320 Nm.

  • Hyundai Tucson 3 (TL) in 2018 – 2020; Tucson 4 (NX4) since 2020;

  • Kia Ceed 3 (CD) since 2018;
  • Kia Optima 4 (JF) in 2018 – 2019;
  • Kia Sportage 4 (QL) in 2018 – 2021; Sportage 5 (NQ5) since 2021.

Disadvantages of the Hyundai D4FE engine

Thus far, the engine fuel system’s unpredictability is the primary source of complaints on specialized forums;
The use of an AdBlue urea solution is implied by the presence of an SCR catalyst; as usual, a particulate filter and an EGR valve are major issues.
