Since 2017, popular concern models like the i30, i40, Ceed, Sportage, and Tucson have been equipped with the 1.6-liter Hyundai D4FE or Smartstream D 1.6 CRDi engine. There are two power versions of this diesel engine: 116 horsepower and 280 Nm and 136 horsepower and 320 Nm.

The engines D3FA, D4FA, D4FB, D4FC, and D4FD are also part of the Hyundai U family.
The engine was mounted on:

- Hyundai Tucson 3 (TL) in 2018 – 2020; Tucson 4 (NX4) since 2020;

- Kia Sportage 4 (QL) in 2018 – 2021; Sportage 5 (NQ5) since 2021.
