Engine Jeep ELF

From 1992 to 2002, the company produced the 5.2-liter Jeep ELF or Magnum 318 V8 engine, which was found in many of its SUVs and pickups, including the Dakota, Durango, and Grand Cherokee. Although it used a lot of fuel, this engine stood out for its high dependability and endurance.

  • Dodge Dakota 2 (DN) in 1996 – 2000;
  • Dodge Durango 1 (DN) in 1997 – 2000;
  • Dodge Ramcharger 2 in 1992 – 1993;
  • Dodge Ram 1 (BR) in 1992 – 1993;
  • Dodge Ram 2 (DR) in 1993 – 2002;
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee 1 (ZJ) in 1992 – 1998.

Disadvantages of the ELF engine

Although this engine has no flaws and is incredibly dependable, its consumption is high;
Air leakage through the intake manifold is the most well-known failure;
Hydraulic lifters frequently become stuck when lubricant quality is reduced; this power unit’s remarkable mass significantly restricts the resources available for its supports;
Here, a water pump and a gasoline pump are not the best resources.
